things i am lovin' this week.

1- baby crafts! the past two major crafts I have done lately have been for my best friends new baby, Carlie. So in the SarahBella tradition, here are my tutorials on diaper cakes & onesie bouquets.

  •  PROJECT #1 -- Diaper Cake
    • Choose a Theme
      • I went with pink and polka dots and bright colors. I did this mostly because she didn't have a specific nursery theme and she was having a girl. I thought this would be a cute color scheme for a girl and look cute at the shower. Bright and cheerful.
    •  Buy Materials
      • I have a four year old, so I am no stranger to the baby section at Target, so I kind of knew going into the store what I wanted to get. I choose a large box of Pampers newborn size diapers (proved to be too many, but I put the others in a cute bag & gave them separately to her), a gift set of travel size Johnson's baby lotions, etc., & tiny little pack of clip on bows. I also got some ribbon & fake flowers. Then I got a cheap pizza tray for the bottom and some infant girlie toys to hook on it.
    •  Put it Together
      • I rolled the diapers and secured them with rubber bands. Then I put them in tiers around the pie pan. Then I wrapped each layer with the two different ribbons.
    • Decorate (the best part!)
      •  I inserted the Johnson's items randomly throughout the tiers, attached the toys or stuck them in, stuck in the flowers (which also helped to secure the diapers), & clipped the little hair bows all over the ribbon.

  • PROJECT #2 - Onesie Bouquet
  •  Supplies:
    • Packs (or indivual styles) of onesies -- I got several different sizes so they were not all one size
    • Pack of Baby Socks
    • Faux Flowers (to match your colors/theme) (optional)
    • Stretchy Headbands with bows
    • floral wire
    • styrofoam
    • flower pot (any color -- to match your color scheme)
      •  You can start the project by putting the styrofoam in the bottom of the flower pot to make it at the height that would look good.
      • Then I rolled the onesies -- make sure to roll so the buttons are on the inside. After one is rolled, take the floral wire and wrap around the onesie toward the bottom and stick the onesie blossom into the styrofoam. (To be honest I stuck so much in there, it probably would have stayed without the wire, up to you)
      • After I filled it with most of the onesies (I bought too many so I just gave her the extras in a bag), roll the socks and insert them randomly around the onesies. Then add in your faux flowers (optional).
      • Then to add some pizazz to the flower pot, I got some of those stretchy headbands (instead of ribbon) and put them around the pot. This will not work if you get too big of a pot. I found these to be actually useful since the baby can actually wear them.

For my color scheme, I chose black, purple, pink, with a dash of some white as well as pink leopard print.

things i am lovin' this week.

1- DIY lemon sugar hand scrub.

  • Materials
    • 2 cups sugar
    • 1/4 - 1/3 cup almond oil
    • few drops of fresh squeezed lemon or lemon essential oil
    • cute container (I used a ball jar) to put it in
    • ribbon & paper to make label (optional)
    • spoon (optional)
      • It is as simple as this -- mix all the ingredients together until there isn't any floating liquid. Place in a jar with a lid, label, & tie on the spoon. Enjoy!

2- DIY peppermint foot scrub.

  • Materials:
    • 1 cup sugar
    • olive oil or coconut oil
    • few drops of peppermint essential oil or peppermint eucalyptus massage oil
      • Add all ingredients together. Add the olive oil or coconut oil until the mix is wet, but grainy. Takes a little trial & error. Put in a cute container with a lid & add a label.

3 - my super smooth legs. read recently that the best way to get super smooth legs (& I am talkin' as smooth as a wax!) was to first shave regularly, then use a scrub (same recipe as the lemon above), then shave again. basic principle was that you were also getting off the dead skin, etc. Swear, it works!

things i am lovin' this week.

The wait is over and the new season of True Blood came out a few weeks ago and so far I must say it is going to be one heck of a season! For the premiere, I decided to go a little over the top for my friends who were coming to watch and I collected a ton of ideas of around the web and put them together to make my own True Blood themed get together.

Supplies:
small candles in red, white, or black (or mix and match)
red napkins & plates (or mix and match with black)
bloody mary ingredients
supplies to make red velvet cupcakes (along with white icing and red food coloring)
a large glass container to make your "talbot" drink

1- true blood season premiere! these snacks I put together for our premiere "party" made everyone "wanna do bad things". lovin' those blood splatter cupcakes (but not as much as the seeing the food coloring all over Madeline's face that made her look like a vampire!) & my Jar O' Talbot.

what I wore this week.

Put together this outfit from an idea I saw on the 'cali looks' portion of the HcO website. Best part was I already had all the pieces, I just needed the inspiration of how to put it all together. It was super comfy for a "hanging out at the house on a friday night" kinda outfit. other than this, I think I rocked out my pj's most of the week so not much to report there. ;)
